Activities at BrethrenCon III

We've got so much planned for BrethrenCon that we need two days to do it all! This list is growing frequently; check back often for the most current information.

Port Royalty Contest

pirate_king_solace.jpgThink you have what it takes to be the Pirate King of the Plains? Come to BrethrenCon and prove your mettle! The Port Royalty Contest combines scores from the Tortuga Tavern Tourney, the Knot Tying, Talk Like a Pirate and Costume contests with a "popular vote" as indicated by how much cash you can collect to benefit The Sunken Bones Society's 2012 charity.

Take what ya' can; give nothin' back! Stuff the ballot box, shanghai your crew to campaign for you, or extort (in a friendly fashion) "votes" from your constituants. Every dollar collected equals one point; first place in any contest nets you 50 points, and second place adds 20 points to your booty.

Please sign up in advance to vie for the title!

Knot Tying

Talk Like a Pirate Contest

It's Talk Like a Pirate Day, after all! (Near enough, anyway.)

It's a power lunch with your boss and perhaps a client or two. It's on the company's dime, so you better have something work-related to accomplish over your beef burgundy, and it'd better impress. What's the first thing that comes to your lips as the waiter sets down your plate?

A true pirate would know... do you? Better brush up on your pirate-speak and be prepared to apply the lingo to daily living. Captain Jack has an entire list of situations for you to respond to with Pirattitude. Fast thinking and a bit of familarity with the lingo (or movie quotes!) are advised.

First place in the TLaP contest gains 50 points toward the Pirate Royalty Contest and a nifty prize. (We don't know what it will be yet, but it will be nifty.) Second place gets 20 points and a signed copy of George Choundas's The Pirate Primer: Mastering the Language of Swashbucklers and Rogues - because second place needs to study up a little.

(By the way, the answer is, "Well, me hearties, let's see what crawled out of the bung hole!")

Tortuga Tavern Tournament (Liar's Dice)

Be a good liar or have deep pockets and you can prevail in Liar's Dice. This game of betting and bluffing resembles draw poker. (The rules are available here.) An entry fee of $5 gets you a full set of five dice, and in the BrethrenCon version we give you the "second chance" option of recovering lost dice for a buck. (BrethrenCon is a fund-raiser, right?)

Don't forget that the Tortuga Tavern Tournament is part of the Port Royalty contest, not to mention the shiny that the winner will take home.

Table Decoration contest table_dec_contest_2011b.jpg

Lay your ship's table with loot and compete for the best table decorations. Last year's prize was a ship-sized bottle of Kraken Spiced Rum; wonder what the Crew has in mind for this year's booty...?

Kid's Contests

Keep a weather eye on the horizon - we've had a message in a bottle that portents fair sailin' for the little ones.

The Pirates Plunder Game

Ahoy, me hearties! The Pirates Plunder Game is back for 2012.

The rules o' the plunder game be quite simple, so listen up an' know 'em, so as ye can be sure of gettin' yer fair share o' the loot!

1. Each pirate will get one bag o' plunder! It be yers t'keep, an' it be filled with all manner o' random shiny.
2. If'n you're wantin' an extra share of the plunder, bags can be had from the Harbormistress for a pair o' gold dubloons. (Aye, she'll take that in bank notes, too.)
3. Each pirate should decide what o' their plunder, or other's, they be taken their own shine to.
4. Pirates should attempt to barter, bargain, convince and coerce their other pirate brethren to be handin' over their similar loot.  Like them miniature silver buckles?  Collect as many as ya can!  YOU decide what you're going to collect -- and some of the loot will be worth much bigger prizes!
5. Winners t'be announced and prizes t'be handed out on Sunday afternoon during the closin' ceremonies, at the main stage in the Spanish Main.

The Tortuga Tavern

Gaming

Bring your dice, your cards, or any pirate-themed game and spend some time gaming in the beautiful Tortuga Tavern. The tavern is open for gaming during the Buccaneer Bash on Saturday night and all day on Sunday. The Liar's Dice tournament is scheduled in the Tavern on Saturday.

Raise the colors!

Did you see the Tortuga Tavern? It was fairly festooned with the colors of the region's piratical groups. The BrethrenCon staff wants your personal, group, or ship's flags or banners to fly in the Tortuga Tavern. Bring it to the Registration Desk at BrethrenCon to have it installed in the Tavern for the duration of the convention.

Shanty Sing

A huge hit every year, Shanty Singing led by Captain McCool is back again. All your favorites and some you've probably never heard of! Come raise a glass and raise your voice, and celebrate the freedom of life on the account! Bring your instruments and gather in the Tortuga Tavern to share in the music.

The Con Suite

The Con Suite will be open most of the time during BrethrenCon for relaxing and snacking. ConSuite Cap'n Arrrrrrwen is laying quite the spread for the mates; if you want to donate some victuals, let her know! The schedule will be posted on the Schedule & Panels page.

Videos in the Con Suite

Looking to relax for a bit? Stop in to the video room and kick back to a selection of recent (and "historic") piratical favorites.

The Shanghai Crew

The Shanghai Crew will be back - do they have a warrant for your arrest? They are bribable! Pay them off to put your friends in the brig - or to keep yourself out. The Shanghai Crew will be on duty during the Buccaneer Bash on Saturday night. Bring yer' dubloons!

Kilt Blowin'

We had so much fun last year, we're doin' it agian!

Lads, do the wenches a favor. If you have a kilt in yer trunk bring it with you to BrethrenCon.  If you don’t have a kilt, no worries, we’ll have some on hand for you to borrow.

The Wild Wenches of the Duckie are planning a titillating good time and promise a blow job to remember to any pirate in a kilt. We’ll be blowing kilts with leaf blowers for a jolly good time! No you don’t need to show your junk- just stand there and be a hunk. Kilts will flutter and the wenches will shudder. But all in innocent fun. Ok - we’re pirates, it might not be too innocent.

Wenches, we invite you to be bawdy! Scream, cheer, whistle, and make lewd comments. All in a good evening’s fun!  Enjoy all the pirate eye-candy!

We dare you to show the wenches that a little breeze between the knees doesn’t bother you!
